Losing Streak

Game Of Love

Directions:

– 2 Players Only

– 100 cards in a deck

– Each player gets 10 cards and takes turns one play at a time.

– Play starts with the drawing of a card and ends with the discarding of a card. The next player can draw from the draw pile or the discarded pile.

– In order to win this game, players must understand one another and keep a matching pace in order to keep playing. Otherwise, both players have a high risk of losing. Ideally, game play becomes second-nature and lasts forever.

Warning: Losing this game can cause irreparable heartbreak. Play at your own risk.

He sat down and grabbed 10 cards.

I asked him if he was sure he wanted to play.

I was nervous to play because playing this game with him is not one I want to lose.

So I was careful with all my moves.

I studied him and studied him and studied him.

So I could perfect my gameplay. I played sequences in tune with his rhythm.

I was killing it. I was thrilled. I was ecstatic. I’ve never played such a good game.

I was on a roll until the day I went to draw a card and there was none to draw.

Where are the cards?

Why can’t I see them?

Did he discard on his last turn?

I can’t remember. Why can’t I remember?

Where am I supposed to draw?

What do you do when player two says they want to play but they don’t actually play?

What do you do when player two plays and it feels like they are only playing because they are here?

What do you do when player two won’t play?

How do you know the difference between them not wanting to play and them not knowing how to play?

Do you try to guide them?

Do you try to reread them the directions?

Do you remind them of the warning? The risk?

Do they not see how much time you put into this?

Did they not understand how much effort you were making every time you played a hand?

Did they not see how much calculations you analyzed to make the best move?

Do they not know the amount of research you spent gathering?

Did they understand, but just not care?

Do you stop playing so they can see what they are doing to you?

What are the other options?

How do you end a game you don’t want to end?

What else can one do when they have no choice but to lose?

The never-ending loop of unanswerable questions continues on.

I can’t answer them. I don’t think anyone can.

See, I thought I would win this game since I figured out how to play the right way.

I was SO confident in my game I was convinced I wouldn’t lose.

I forgot that winning takes two.

So I lost. I lost hard.

But I played a hell of a game. Best game I ever played…and that has to count for something.
